You are renting a stranger's machine. Escrow and this policy exist so that if it doesn't deliver, you don't lose your money.
When you book, the amount moves from your wallet into escrow held by Petabyte for that rental — it is not paid to the host until the work is delivered. Every completed job carries a verifiable receipt (the node's signed result + the sha256 of the output), and payouts to hosts are held for a settlement window so fraud can be caught before money leaves.
If you believe you were charged for compute you did not receive — or a result is wrong — email info@petabyte.market with your booking id or VM id and what went wrong. We investigate using signals we already hold: the signed result receipt, the node's heartbeats, and — where the job is deterministic — cross-node re-verification of the output hash.
| We acknowledge your dispute | within 2 business days |
| We resolve it (refund, partial, or explained) | within 10 business days |
Outcomes are a full refund, a partial refund for the portion not delivered, or — if the evidence shows the compute was delivered — the charge upheld, with the receipt and signals we relied on shared with you so the decision is not a black box.
A host who takes a booking and fails to deliver, misrepresents hardware, or whose result diverges from independent re-verification has their payouts frozen pending review. Buyers are made whole from escrow before any payout to that host — your refund does not wait on us recovering from the host.
If you funded your wallet by card, please contact us before filing a card chargeback — we can almost always resolve a delivery dispute faster than your bank can, and a receipt makes it straightforward.
